The car is real, the production is rolling, and I would hoon this sucker. The BBC article is below. To sum it up, the first one rolled off the line to an undisclosed buyer. It is lighter than the Tesla, and 500lbs heavy than a gas powered Elise. It won’t be released in the US, but it looks better than the Tesla Roadster, and the paint schemes are fantastic.

So it’s made by a company called Detroit Electric, and won’t be sold in the US?

“The car uses a 285-horsepower electric motor to drive the rear wheels, matched to a standard single-speed transmission or an optional two-speed automatic — or, in the top-spec version, a six speed manual.”
Oooh... Now I want one... just so I can have an electric car with a 6 speed manual.

Classic Brits showing that they can steal names too. They should have called it New Detroit.

Soo... Basically... There’s a new Tesla Roadster out that isn’t actually made by Tesla...

The 6 speed manual option made me do a double-take... That is pretty damned cool, and very interesting... To my knowledge, this is the first manual transmission equipped electric car, ever (though if I’m wrong, I’m sure someone will inform me).
And I’ll agree, it does look better, but it is pretty much spot on what I imagine the Tesla Roadster would look like if Tesla had continued to produce and improve the Roadster... Though I don’t think Musk would have offered it with a 6 speed manual.
